Take a good look at these pictures below. I want to you hold in your mind what you see...
Yes these are me but let me share with you what I see by looking at these...
someone who is happy
someone who is on vacation and relaxing
someone who is floating out into the lake
someone who is kicked back and having a great time
Let me share with you the reality (a few of these are really funny...specifically the first and last one)
I AM happy but floating around was making me nauseous (I get motion sickness) 🤢
I live close to this area and I come out as often as I can (to hike or swim) 😍
I was actually only about 6 ft or less from the shoreline because the waves kept pushing me back to shore 😂
My kids were fighting the whole morning before leaving and nearly the entire time we were there 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
My husband and I got in a tiff over something stupid before we left for the lake and I was still a little upset about it 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
The raft was losing air which is why my hand was placed where it is to prevent it from continuing to leak 😂
Perception creates reality.
So often we look at everyone else's highlight reel of some beautifully crafted pictures and we default to comparison or assumptions which often leads us to feeling worse about ourselves, right? Wondering why someone else lives such a great life and why you can't live that too.
Here's the thing, we're placing people on pedestals that don't need to be there. Everyone is a human being. We're all just doing our best and truly...no one know what they're doing most of the time 😂(if you have kids you FULLY understand me on this one 😂) Annnnd...not everything is perfect all the time!
What if we took the rose colored glasses off and just took everything in without that self comparison?? How much BETTER would you feel about YOU? Let's take this a step further. How much better would you feel if, when you noticed you're comparing yourself to someone else's "filtered" life, you just got off social media and took a break??
That's something I've definitely had to do.
Ok...you know ya girl is gonna take this a step further because I'm here for it😂
When you find yourself comparing to someone else's life, you can also use this as an opportunity to do some inner work! Those feelings are coming up for a reason! Let's stop sweeping this crap under the rug and let's actually do something with it!
Grab your journal (if you don't have one yet omg...why?! 😂I legit talk about it almost daily 😂Do yourself a favor and go get one!) and a pen and write out these questions to help you get started...
What just happened? ...Write out what you just experienced. By doing this you're getting it all out of your head and onto paper--this is also great if you are someone who has anxiety!)
What about their life am I envious of?
What don't I know about this person's life? ...Maybe she struggles with anxiety or deep depression, has a traumatic past that still affects her today, struggles in her marriage, hates her job...these are just random things that this person may not be sharing! We're not bashing here but we're just like ok what could she NOT be sharing that I may not even know!
Why am I feeling this way about this person?
Is there something about their life that I desire in my own life?? ...This one is the BIG ONE! Often times that jealousy or envy triggers something we desire too!
Who says I can't have it?! (Hint: NO ONE! ;) )
What steps can I take now to having that?
Save this email so you can refer back to it because I promise you, this will be GOLD in your healing and a step to feeling even BETTER! Which is the goal right?! Feeling freakin' GOOD!
One thing I promised you was to keep it real. Unmasked. I will share here, social media, blog & podcast when things are good and when they're not so hot. You're not gonna get just the highlight reel from me--so be sure you're reading the captions because I'll tell you about it. What I'll also share is the lesson that I'm learning or have learned. Doesn't mean I'll sift through the mud right away (I know you won't always either because we're HUMAN!) but just know that there is a lesson in whatever is going on.
